Joe was reliable from start to finish. Turned up on time for quotes and installation of new sash windows at a listed building operating as a nursing home. Joe was very considerate of both staff and resident needs at all times. We will continue to use JML for all future work. Martyn Hibberd, Managing Director of Wells House Ltd

Frequently Asked Questions

Are wooden doors suitable for the changing weather conditions in North Devon?

Yes, wooden doors are an excellent choice for the varied weather we experience in North Devon. When crafted from quality timber and finished correctly, they offer impressive durability, insulation and resistance to moisture. We use materials and coatings designed to stand up to seasonal rain, colder winters and stronger coastal winds. With occasional maintenance, a timber door will continue to perform well for many years, keeping your home secure and helping to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature throughout the year.

Can you replace my current door frame when fitting a new wooden door?

Absolutely. If your existing door frame is damaged, outdated or not structurally sound, we can replace it as part of the installation process. Many homeowners choose a full frame replacement to improve insulation, strengthen security and achieve a cleaner, more attractive finish. We build new frames to match the exact size of your opening and ensure a perfect fit for your new wooden door. This approach guarantees long-term stability and smooth operation, giving you a fully upgraded doorway that performs at its best.

Do you cover areas outside Barnstaple for wooden door installations?

Yes, we work across Barnstaple and surrounding areas including Bideford, Braunton and Fremington. Homeowners across North Devon choose us for our reliable service, high-quality workmanship and made-to-measure wooden doors. Whether you’re updating a traditional property or enhancing a modern home, we provide the same careful, professional installation wherever you’re based. If you’re unsure whether your location is covered, just get in touch and we’ll be happy to confirm.

Why pick a bespoke wooden door over a standard-sized door?

A made-to-measure wooden door offers a perfect fit, improved insulation and a much higher-quality finish compared to a standard off-the-shelf option. Because it’s crafted specifically for your doorway, it eliminates gaps, reduces draughts and enhances security. Many homeowners on streets such as Newport Road and Pilton Street in Barnstaple choose bespoke doors for this very reason. You also have complete control over design choices, including the timber type, glazing, hardware and overall style. This level of customisation ensures the door complements your home beautifully and provides reliable performance for years to come.
